Our Mission

The Association for Bilingualism in Cyprus aims to disseminate bilingualism in Cyprus. It intends to create favorable conditions to the learning of the two official languages in Cyprus, Greek and Turkish, in both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities. In this context, efforts will be made for the development of a teaching policy for the Greek and Turkish languages. Besides bilingualism and pedagogical issues concerning the teaching and learning of Greek and Turkish as second/foreign languages, other important matters such as translation issues from Turkish to Greek and vice versa, as well as terminology issues will also be emphasized.

One of the fundamental purposes of the Association for Bilingualism in Cyprus is to eliminate the “language barrier” that prevents communication between the two communities, and to contribute (to the efforts for) peace and reconciliation in Cyprus.
