Who We Are

Association for Bilingualism in Cyprus

The Association for Bilingualism in Cyprus is a civil society organization consisting of 22 founding members, all bilingual in Greek and Turkish. Among the founding members are Turkologists, Greek Philologists, Greek teachers, Turkish teachers, translators, and academic linguists working on Greek and Turkish languages.

In addition, many people working in the field of Greek and Turkish, learning Greek and Turkish, and embracing dialogue and the culture of peace between the two communities are members of our association.

Board Members

Our board brings together multilingual professionals from different disciplines.

Dr. Düriye GÖKÇEBAĞ

President

She completed her doctorate at the University of Athens and works as a Turkish language instructor and coordinator at the Language Centre of the University of Cyprus. She is also a Greek-Turkish translator. She contributes as an academic advisor and committee member in exam and translation boards related to the Ministry of Education, with a focus on bilingualism, language teaching, and translation.

Eleni GEORGIOU

Vice President

She works as a Turkish language instructor at the University of Cyprus Language Centre and is pursuing doctoral studies on foreign language education and the teaching of Turkish in Cyprus. Her academic interests focus on language pedagogy, bilingual learning environments, and practical approaches to Turkish language teaching in Cyprus.

Salih TOKSÖZ

Secretary General

He is a PhD candidate and researcher at the University of Cyprus with extensive experience in intercultural dialogue, youth empowerment and education-focused civic initiatives. As a trilingual facilitator and peace educator, he actively designs and supports initiatives that build sustainable bridges between divided communities.

Pembe ÖZOCAK

Board Member

She studied Modern Greek Language and Literature at Ankara University and completed her master's degree in journalism. She has been working as a Greek translator in public institutions since 1997. With many years of institutional experience, she contributes to translation quality, terminology consistency, and multilingual communication.

Marilena TTOFI

Cashier

She works as a financial controller in the private sector and is a member of ACCA and ICPAC. She speaks Greek, Turkish, English and Spanish. She specializes in financial control, reporting, and compliance, and supports the association's financial planning and accountability processes.

Our Mission

The Association for Bilingualism in Cyprus aims to create suitable conditions for the learning of the official languages, Greek and Turkish, by the two communities in Cyprus in order to promote bilingualism.

We work on language policy, bilingual education, translation practice and terminology issues while contributing to the removal of language barriers between the communities.
